Benjamin Friedli Obituary
Benjamin D. Friedli of Cibolo, TX passed away July 4, 2011 at the age of 22. He was born March 31, 1989 at Walter Reed AMC in Washington, DC. Ben was the most caring, kindest, and loving son. He touched countless people thru his gentleness, and taught all the true meaning of unconditional love and acceptance. Music moved him. He could remember the words to every song he heard, and in his own way, he expressed himself through the music's beat. After seeing "Ride The High Places" at an Eagle Scout Ceremony, Ben said he too wanted to be an Eagle Scout, which he achieved in 2010. He loved being a Special Olympics athlete. Besides receiving an award, the State games' closing ceremony/dance highlighted his participation. He competed in bowling, basketball, golf, softball, triathlon and power lifting, and holds the State record in the dead lift (286 lbs) for his age and category. He also bowled at RAFB for 15 years, and bowled a 277 the last night of league bowling, almost reaching his perfect game goal. He placed 2d - Division 3/Singles 2010 City Youth Tournament with a 767. On Wednesday nights, Ben looked forward to being "just one of the Korea House guys" listening to music, watching sports, and playing pool in the Northeast Pool League. He loved sports, and as an avid Cowboy, Spurs, and A&M fan, he knew their records and scheduling. Playing board/card games Friday night at Grandma's was a favorite, too. Ben was active in church serving as an acolyte, usher, and member of the praise band, and attending mission trips. Ben spent over 5 years working at Academy Sports, and was blessed with acceptance and admiration from coworkers. Ben is survived by his loving parents, David and Sally; sister, Kim (fiancé Scott) of Schertz; brother, Brian (wife Lora) of San Antonio; grandmother, Helen B. Friedli of San Antonio; uncles, John Friedli (wife Debbie and son Adam) of Michigan, Dr. Armin Friedli of Georgia, Rev. John Collins (wife Rita) of Georgia, Lee Collins of Alabama, and Bill Bogart (wife Brenda) of Dallas, and numerous cousins. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 11, 2011, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, at Schertz Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at 9:30AM, at the Universal City United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the All American All Stars Special Olympics and UCUMC Foundation. Larry and I have always enjoyed being around Ben. He was a happy young man and I attribute that to his parents and the rest of his family.He loved working with his dad- he loved going to grandmas house and taking her with the family to Marthas or Crackle Barrel on Friday nights, he loved his job, and of course he loved all the sports that he excelled in and church. He was the most well-rounded young man I have ever known. God could not have chosen a better match than Ben and his family. We will miss him. We did not get to see him real often, but enjoyed those brief visits. I think about him every day and am so sorry for your loss. I cannot even imagine your pain. Our bible study class and church have lifted you all up in prayer. God Bless All.

We were saddened to hear of Ben's death. When we lived across the street, Ben would play football with our young daughters. We especially remember Halloweens, when Ben would watch us carve pumpkins and hand out candy. We are so sorry for your loss, but grateful for his life.

I never knew Ben personally, but I have seen him around and I do believe he was always smiling and seemed to be a very kind soul. I am sorry for your loss. To love someone with all your heart and then having them leave you is one of the hardest things you have to live through. I hope God may help you through your hard times. Sending you love from a stranger and letting you know you had a very special son that even a passer by noticed.

I first met Ben when he was about 8 or 9 and living in Tokyo while his dad, David was stationed there. He touched my heart with a pure love as he has done to everyone he has ever come in contact with. He lived more in his short years on this earth than many have done or ever will do with even many more years. He left an indelible mark on humanity by showing the goodness of God through his life and he will be sorely missed. We all cherish the memories we have of Ben and thank God for having had an opportunity to meet and know him in this life. Our sincere sympathies to David, Sally, Kim and Brian and all the family and friends that he left behind. We will all miss him so very much.

Ben, you will be greatly missed at Kingdom Kamp for all the remaining years. I am so glad that I got to see you at all the Kingdom Kamps that you attended and at the June meeting. Rest assured that you are loved by all the staff.

Always loved seeing Ben at Kingdom Kamp when he came to the Mount Wesley Conference Center - and his big smile. He enjoyed the dances! Ben was always so helpful to others. We will miss him greatly. What a joy and delight he was to be around and watch. On behalf of the entire Mount Wesley staff - our deepest condolences to his family. We celebrate Ben's amazing life and legacy.

Ben is missed by all of us. He was joy to be around, always with a smile and a big laugh. We always had a great time playing golf and bowling and joking around.
