Bennie Sewell Obituary

Lt. Col. Bennie R. Sewell Jr. US Army (Ret.), entered into rest July 17, 2008 in San Antonio at the age of 88. He was born December 19, 1919 in Como, Texas to the late B.R. & Roby (Garvin) Sewell, Sr. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Preston and Wayne Sewell; and sister, Vatice Harvey. Survivors include his wife, Ethel M. Sewell; daughter, Jo McMaughan and husband, Kevin of College Station, Texas; son, Bennie R. Sewell III of New Braunfels, Texas; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Sewell of Orlando, Florida. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at the funeral home. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher House or the charity of your choice Sunset Funeral Home.

Dear Sewell Family:

It is with great admiration and respect that I want to offer my condolences on the death of Bennie R. Sewell, Jr. I recently learned that he was a United States Army veteran. Please know that he is mourned even by those of us who weren't fortunate enough to know him personally.
As Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I appreciate his sacrifices on behalf of our great nation. God bless you and your family during this difficult time.
