Billie Liebe Obituary
Billie Chapman Liebe, born November 1, 1914 in Yoakum, TX to Jane Gipson and William C. Chapman, the third child of four, passed away April 8, 2001. Her life span of 86 years had many outstanding accomplishments. She was an award winning photojournalist, a Past President of Texas Press Women, member National Press Women, Manuscript Club, South Texas Writers Club and Theta Sigma Phi. She was Field Editor of the Sheep and Goat Raisers Magazine and covered Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Billie was also Editor of Sun and Soil and, in this capacity, traveled throughout Texas for many years reporting and photographing some of the best Texas had to offer. After marrying Edgar E. Liebe in 1961, she retired from her very active and exciting career. They lived in Lytle, where they had a dairy farm until Ed retired. At that point, they moved to Boerne where they have resided for the past 22 years. She continued her journalistic career as a freelance writer for many renowned publications and newspapers. Billie also became an accomplished painter, which had been a lifelong desire. She leaves behind so many dear friends and family. Ed Liebe of Boerne, her husband; a daughter, Sylvia Sproat of San Antonio; a son, Romie Stevenson and his wife Susan of New Hampshire; granddaughters, Sylvia S. Melancon of Fredericksburg, Patricia Stevenson of Virginia, Donna Lynn Stevenson of Delaware, Heather Stevenson of New York City, Mark Stevenson and his wife Carolyn of Wisconsin and great-grandchildren, Allie and Nickol Melancon and Connor and Matthew Stevenson; her sister, Nell Rose Serene; niece, Judy Janney; nephew, Eugene Serene, Jr. and his wife Cindy; great-nephews, Michael and David Serene. Visitation on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Vaughan's Funeral Home, 319 E. San Antonio Ave., Boerne, TX 78006. Services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 3:00 P.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 205 E. James Street, Boerne, TX. Reception following the Service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
