Campbell Smith Obituary

Campbell Smith Jr., died on Friday, June 7, 2002 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio after a short illness. He was a fifth generation Texan whose family settled in Liberty Hill, Williamson County, in 1848. He was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on April 6, 1925 to Campbell Smith and Nina McDonald Smith. Campbell Smith graduated from Yale University where he also received a Master's degree in music. He then studied in Paris with renowned organist Marcel Dupre. Smith moved to San Antonio in 1954 where he served as Organist and Choir Master of the First Presbyterian Church before joining the music faculty of Trinity University. Campbell Smith was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He also served on the Board of the College of Preachers of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. and was a member of the Order of the Alamo, the German Club, the Argyle Club, and the San Antonio Country Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Eloise Seeligson Smith; son, Lamar Smith and his wife Beth of San Antonio and Washington D.C.; daughter, Lark Phillips of New Braunfels; granddaughters, Nell Smith and Teysha Phillps; grandson, Tobin Smith; brother McDonald Smith of Austin, TX; nephews, McDonald Smith Jr. and Taliaferro Smith, and niece Angela Smith Johannes. Campbell Smith was happy to celebrate the recent graduation of his granddaughter Nell from the University of Texas Law School, and the graduation of his grandson Tobin from Cornell University's School of Architecture. MEMORIAL SERVICE TUESDAY 3:00 P.M. ST. MARK'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH 315 E. PECAN In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Mark's Memorial Fund. Arrangements with Porter Loring Mortuary.
