Carl Moore Obituary

July 15, 1916 - February 28, 2016
July 15, 1916-February 28, 2016 Carl Henry Moore was born July 15, 1916 in Quincy, Michigan to Lewis and Lillian Moore, Dr. Moore leaves behind a son, Henry Moore, a daughter, Susan Moore-Sickmann, six grandchildren (Shannon Martinez, Jayme Bomben, Sarah Laja, Lily Moore, Zach Sickmann and Matthew Sickmann) and nine great grandchildren (Alex Martinez, Ava Martinez, Jayda Bomben, Karys Bomben, Nyah Bomben, Hayden Laja, Amelia Laja, Luca McDonald and Kaeton McDonald). Carl had a third child, Cindy, who died as a child of 12. Carl considered his in laws, Billee Moore, Tom Sickmann, Eddie Martinez, Ross Bomben, and Peep Laja, just as much family. Carl's Michigan family included his sister Mildred Goodman who passed just days before Carl, and nephews Paul (Georgia) Goodman and Chuck (Bethany) Goodman.

The last five years of his life, Carl remained mentally sharp but physically limited. He was able to stay in his home because of the loving, dedicated care of a few special people. Special thanks is given to Darteshia Adams, Connie Pena, Lucy DeLeon, and Michelle DeLeon.

Carl grew up on a farm in Southern Michigan during the depression. He earned a bachelor of science in agriculture from Michigan State, graduating on the eve of Pearl Harbor. Carl served as a navigator on a B-26 in the European campaign, returning to marry the girl he fell in love with before shipping overseas. He and Sue (Popsy) Watkins were married on October 17, 1945. They moved back to Michigan for Carl to complete his Master's degree, then on to Purdue University where he completed his PhD in agricultural economics. He accepted employment with the Federal Reserve Bank where he worked until his retirement in 1981. The last 22 years of his career, Carl was the head of the San Antonio branch of the Federal Reserve.

Besides his work at the bank, Dr. Moore served as a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church, was the chairman of the board for the Baptist Hospital system and taught 7th grade Sunday School for 40 years. Carl was also an active member of the Rotary Club. Carl was a prolific writer, covering a wide variety of subjects. His published works include Flying the B-26 Over Europe (Tab Books, 1980, republished McFarland Press, 2013), Money, Its Origin, Development and Modern Use (co-author, McFarland Press 1987), God's Lighthouse on a Hill, first fifty years of Trinity Baptist Church (1999).

Carl's greatest legacy though is the family and friends he left behind. He touched so many lives with kindness and compassion. He never looked up or down on anyone. He never seemed to notice a person's station in life or the color of their skin. He left behind a legacy of love that continues to grow.

The day before Carl passed he was surrounded for the day by all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren along with all of their spouses. He took his last breath at home surrounded by the people who adored him and whom he adored in return. That was his memorial service. Those who wish to honor Carl can send donations in his name to Trinity Baptist Church Youth Ministries.

It really saddened our families hearts today to find that our friend (Pop) Mr. Moore had gone to glory.
Pop will be truly missed. He was an awesome man of God. He and Mrs. Sue (Popsey) Moore had become very dear friends. I know heaven is rejoicing.

We knew Carl for many years, since my brother Tom married Susan, Carl's daughter. He was truly an amazing man, loved and respected by all. Although he accomplished many wonderful things, he remained a humble man; always gracious and loving to all. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed... Love to all, Patty, Mike and Caleb

In behalf of the Nursing Students and Nurses who have graduated from Wayland Baptist University and the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, it is my honor to have known Dr. Moore. He did more to help the Nursing Students understand the important role that they would be taking on perhaps more than any textbook could ever provide. Dr. Moore was truly an inspiration to many health care providers and will be remembered.

Susan,
We were so honored to have known your Dad. I can only imagine what a wonderful parent he was to you and your siblings. He was gentle and kind, and such an animal lover. We will miss him.
