Adela F. Cavender passed away peacefully at her home on November 26, 2006 at the age of 82. Mom was hired at Kelly AFB during World War II. She worked with women who did so much with the success of World War II, doing industrial jobs while men were at war. Just as the name 'Rosie the Riverter' was coined to identify women who joined the war production, a special name for the San Antonio women was 'The Kelly Katies'. Mom loved to crochet and make us baby blankets and table cloths. And let us not forget the banana breads, pumpkin and apple cakes and last, but not least, our favoriteÉChewy's!! She is survived by her daughters: Patrica Yeagley, Rosemary Luna and husband, Jesse; Mary Alice Garza and husband, Steve; Cathy Abrego and husband, Robert; son, Frank Cavender and wife, Daisy; grandchildren: Gina Gelber, Joseph Garcia, Christopher Cavender, Frank Cavender, Jr., Margaret Cavender, Gabriel Cavender, Crystal Cavender, Nicole Cavender, Bianca Luna, Jeffrey Luna, Jennifer Woitena, Natalie Garza, Steven Garza, Adam Ramirez, Logan Ramirez, and Zachary Cavender; great-grandchildren: Billy Garza, Julia Gelber, Elias Gelber, Aiden Gelber, Meagan Garcia, and Madison Garcia; sisters: Alice Vandervort, Andrea Ramirez and husband, Roy, Antonia Acosta and husband, Lou, Aida Rodriguez; sister-in-law, Nora Garcia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mom, thank you for being the Mom that you were; In good times, in hard times, and bad times. You have always been the best Mom to us and we will always cherish you in our hearts. Loving you always.
