Craig Wright
August 18, 1949 - December 13, 2023
Craig Mathewson Wright, DDS, a beloved husband, devoted son and father, proud grandfather and cherished brother and uncle, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, at the age of 74 in San Antonio, Texas.
Born in Dallas, TX to Robert James Wright and Lucy Craig Wright on August 18, 1949, Craig was the eldest of three children. He graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, and the UT Health Science Center School of Dentistry in San Antonio. Upon completing a three-year tour as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, he returned to San Antonio in 1977, where he launched his dental practice, retiring in 2021.
Craig had a zest for life that was evident in everything he did. His love for animals was profound, finding joy in the company of his pets and helping countless animals that crossed his path. Being outdoors and gardening brought him immense pleasure. He also had a passion and talent for fixing things. He spent many hours in his barn working with his buddies that shared his love of antique vehicle restoration. In addition, he was an avid sailor and a skilled pilot of small aircraft. Whether it was sailing with the wind, soaring high in the skies, or driving his vintage car, Craig was in his happy place.
In that Craig was a superb cook, he used his culinary skills to "woo" a special lady. A combination of his cooking skills, chivalry and genuine attentiveness proved successful in capturing the lady's interest. It was a plus that he was attractive and fun too! Having won the special lady's heart, he married Cheryl Moczygemba on May 16,1998. Life together revolved around family and friends. Children and grandchildren were always a priority. The Brotherhood of the Coast, an international fraternity founded by "people who are bound by love of the sea and a sense of friendship," provided comradery and forged a special bond with the brothers and their wives.
Craig is survived by his wife Cheryl, children Jennifer Dussor (Greg), Kristin Moczygemba, Kevin Moczygemba, Richard Wright (Whitney), Amy Moczygemba; and grandchildren Benjamin Moczygemba, Jacob Moczygemba, Aspen Wright, Matthew Moczygemba, and Campbell Wright. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Richard Warren Wright, sister, Robyn Wright Dunbar, and several nieces and nephews.
In his passing, Craig leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and invaluable memories. He was a beacon of wisdom, a mentor to many, and always eager to lend a helping hand. Donations in Dr. Wright's memory can be made to: San Antonio Christian Dental Clinic, where Craig was committed to improving the smiles of those less fortunate; Remedy Ranch Rescue, which raised their hand to steward Craig's beloved donkeys; or Trinity University, which as an alumnus, he had much respect for as an institution of higher learning.
