David Bell Obituary

BELL
David Michael Bell, beloved husband, father, pastor and friend, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, May 6, 2012. He was born October 21, 1954 in San Antonio, TX. In 1989, David left his successful software career of 13 years, to pastor Destiny Church (then Revival Temple) under his parents John and Ruth Bell. From 1996 to present, he served as lead pastor. The three main thrusts of David's ministry were worship, prayer and continuing the legacy of world missions his parents pioneered. David loved to see men of God rise up in worship and prayer. A passionate worshipper, David recorded and produced several albums and started Dancing Heart, a record label dedicated to raising up the next generation of worshippers. David's favorite activity was playing tennis with his wife, sons and close friends. One of his greatest joys was sitting poolside with his 3 grandchildren. David always enjoyed putting the top down and going for a drive with Jodi, his faithful wife and constant companion. David Bell is survived by Jodi, his wife of 32 years; his brother Nathan; 5 sons: Matthew, Michael, Mark, Micah and Mitchell, all of whom minister at Destiny Church; and 3 grandchildren: Heidi, Hunter and Faith. David was integrity personified. David lived by faith, every day of his life, with the sole purpose of advancing the Kingdom of God.
SERVICES
Visitation will be held from 6:30 - 8:30 PM Friday, May 11, 2012 at Destiny Church, 8635 Callaghan Road, San Antonio, TX 78230. A Memorial Celebration will begin at 10 AM Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Destiny Church. Interment will follow at Mission Burial Park North. Donations can be made on David's behalf to Destiny World Missions. You may sign the on-line guest book at www.missionparks.com under the obituary section.

Dave led worship a few times at a youth camp I went to in Sherman, TX, and also led at my home church (Austin Cathedral) in Austin as a guest leader. His worship songs are incredible (We Cry Holy / There is No Other Name) and we still do songs like "Come Magnify the Lord" in our services today (that's in my top 5 worship songs ever). Gone way too soon.

Jodi, Dear, I've not forgotten you in my prayers. Nestled in close to my heart I have a feeling of compassion that springs into a prayer for you. What can I say or do? Just know I care for a great man has gone to his eternal reward and has left your arms empty for this season of your life. Draw strength from your sons and they will draw from you! You are all loved.

Jodi, family and church, My heart is broken for you all. There is hardly a day that goes by without something reminding me of my most favorite times growing up at Revival Temple (I always tell people that I think I was born under the pew). I never will have a church family like I've had with everyone there. I can remember as a little girl sitting and listening in awe as I would watch David play the piano at his house. It seems like yesterday. I am praying that God will give you all comfort and peace as you continue in what He has called you all to do for His kingdom.

Our prayers and thoughts are with your family. We had the honor and pleasure of meeting Pastor Bell at the church's annual missionary conference back in 2006 and in the subsequent years. What an incredible talented man of God! Such an anointing on his life and ministry. The earth's loss is heaven's gain, the angels are singing along with him. Pastor Gerald and Gail Burns

My pastor David...as I sit & type this, I can't even see through the tears. I've known you since I was 12 years old, a long 26 years. As a young girl I can remember being in awe of your beautiful singing voice and amazing musical gifts. I have fond memories of singing in the choir under your direction & recording "Lion of Judah" with you. You were definitely a stickler for precision & detail! I will always remember how excited you were for me when I received my degree in Music Studies & said, "I trust that you're gonna go forth and be a great light in your classroom!" Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for the opportunity to serve with you in the music ministry. I will always be grateful to God for placing you in my life as the best example of a worship leader. Words can't even express how much Michaela & I will miss you dearly. Thank you for being such an AWESOME, RADICAL, and COOL guy! I will always love & respect you & everything you stood for.

The events of the past few weeks, here in Quitman, definitely put our lives here on earth in a different perspective. We have had more than our share of unexpected deaths, from older folks to our little 9 year old former Little Miss Dogwood. Little did we know, Jodi, that on Saturday night when you and Jocie were sharing so fondly and lovingly about your wonderful family and husband at our Mothers Day Banquet, that all our lives would change in an instant, especially yours. Our collective hearts just broke as the events unfolded last Sunday morning. We hurt for you and your boys, and certainly pray earnestly that the Holy Spirit is surrounding you with the outpouring of love that is coming in from all over the world of people who have been transformed by the ministry of Dave Bell and Destiny Church. In such a short time, in God's eyes, we all shall be with Dave again and rejoice at the feet of Jesus! We must all use our time left here on earth to always keep our focus on the Lord and bring as many along as we possibly can. We love you Jodi, Jocie and all the family! All of us at Living Waters Fellowship will be lifting you up in prayer!

I am so grateful to the Bell family for their faithfulness to God and how they love the body of Christ. We are blessed to have known Pastor Dave for what seems to be a brief moment in life. What joy I have in knowing about the eternal relationship we will share one day in praising and worshiping our heavenly Father. What a glorious day it will be! I love you sister Jodi and brothers Matt, Michael, Mark, Micah, and Mitchell. God's peace that surpasses all understanding be yours this day and always.

I've know David and Jodi all of my 55yrs on this earth, so there are so many things I could say about them both. Most importantly, David truly loved God all his life and while we were still young teenagers, often told me how he wanted to serve Him in some way that would be a blessing to others. David has been a sincere and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, pastor and friend. I am so blessed to have known him. We love you David. Nathan, Jodi, Matthew, Michael, Mark, Mich, and Mitchell, know that our heartfelt prayers are for you and your wonderful family whose hearts are broken right now. I'm confident that David knows his legacy will live on through your own lives. Continue on with Praise In Him.

The Bell family has been in my life since I was a newborn and it is still hard to accept that my pastor is no longer around.Pastor Bell's songs, which happen to be my favorite songs at church, will never be sung the same; they will always be missing his voice. Although this has been traumatic, I know good will rise from this. The Bell boys truly have God's strength with them and it shows every time they get up to speak. The amazing legacy we have seen in Destiny Church will continue as these wonderful young men rise up into their father's shoes and take over Destiny Church. I love the Bell family and wish them the best.

Heaven is certainly filled with even greater praise as a result of Dave's presence there. We love you and will continue to pray that God will strengthen your hearts, minds, and bodies as you step into each new day. Much love to you.

To my Pastor, friend and brother in christ, your life was one of Vision, Worship, Praise and Prayer and you used it to take God's people to higher levels in the heavenly realm. Isaiah 57
New Living Translation (NLT)
57 Good people pass away;
the godly often die before their time.
But no one seems to care or wonder why.
No one seems to understand
that God is protecting them from the evil to come.
2 For those who follow godly paths
will rest in peace when they die.

May God strengthen the Bell family and Destiny Church.

"I love you!" Pastor Dave spoke those words at almost every service. I felt his sincerity and his love each time. Brother, our friendship was short but I praise God for the time we had, for your vision of developing young people, for your heart for missions, and for your lifes calling to advance the Kingdom of God. You always spoke proudly of each of your sons and how they are being used by God to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Know, my brother, that your legacy lives and continues through your family. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
