David Hammons Obituary

David Wayne Hammons
March 2, 2026
David Wayne Hammons passed away on March 2, 2026, at the age of 53. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he had a big personality, a good sense of humor, and a way of leaving an impression everywhere he went.
David graduated from Midland Lee High School in 1990. In 1997, he graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a marketing degree. He was an active member and leader of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and Zeta Delta Chapter – making friendships that lasted well beyond college.
David's career included the Texas Department of Economic Development in Austin; AT&T in both San Antonio and Dallas; and Vistra in Irving.
David was a 32nd Degree Mason at Davy Crockett Lodge and a member of the Alzafar Shrine, where he was a member of the Golf Unit. He was also a volunteer with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Swing4Yellow, and the Special Olympics.
A proud Texan, David cheered proudly and often loudly for the Rangers, Cowboys, and Spurs. He loved being outdoors, whether hunting or out on the water. He had a real enthusiasm for food and took pleasure in finding the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants a town had to offer.
Family meant the world to David. He was a father to Haley Brynn and Dalton Wayne. He was the kind of uncle everyone wanted - lovingly called "Uncle Hambone". His nieces, nephews, and a wonderful crew of "greats" made him proud.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Mae Hammons. He is survived by his father, Walter Wayne Hammons; his sister Melissa and her husband Jim Albright; his former wife, Heather; his children Haley Brynn and Dalton Wayne; and a large and loving extended family who will feel his absence deeply.
A visitation for David will be held on March 23rd from 2:00 – 3:00 at Sunset Funeral, followed by a graveside burial. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's honor can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
