REV. DAVID C. MUÑOZ LÓPEZ, OMI
October 5, 2024
Fr. David Muñoz, OMI went home to God on October 5, peacefully leaving this earth and undoubtedly joyfully welcomed into paradise. God asked David to serve Him as a priest, and David faithfully answered that call, entering into Oblate formation, leading to his profession of vows as a Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate on August 1, 2005, and his ordination to the priesthood on May 22, 2010.
His adventures as an Oblate took him to formation experiences in Rome and San Antonio; to parish ministry assignments in Buffalo, New York; Laredo, Texas; and San Antonio, Texas. God blessed David with a brilliant intellect and a profound pastoral heart. These and his many other abilities enabled David to touch the lives of thousands in his ministry assignments.
His love for his Oblate Congregation was articulately and beautifully expressed in the final ministry assignment he held as Director of the Oblate Charismatic Family of the United States Province. His affection for the Founder of the Oblates, St. Eugene DeMazenod was expressed in the many academic and pastoral experiences he provided the Oblates and laity. With love and passion David reached out to hundreds of lay men and women who are part of the Oblate Charismatic Family. David's academic prowess enabled him to receive a Doctorate in Theology from Oblate School of Theology. It is, however, his deep love for God's poor and his love for Jesus made manifest through his priesthood that will forever shine forth in our hearts and minds.
David had a firm foundation of faith upon which to build his life of service and ministry. He was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Hollywood, Florida. He is survived by his parents, Felix and Ruth Muñoz, and his sister Damaris, as well many family members. David's parents and family passed on to him a strong Catholic faith, setting the stage for his future life of service and ministry.
David's family, and his Oblate family, are grateful for your prayers. Although David returns home to God sooner than any of us would have hoped for, we know that he is with God, and St. Eugene, and interceding for us.
All of us who loved David are forever grateful to the oncology and neurological teams who provided good care for him, as well as the hospice care providers. Also, to the angels who work at the Oblate Madonna Residence, we are grateful to you and lift each of you up in our prayers.
