David Dale Laffoon, of Boerne, TX, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on Friday, December 14, 2018, at the age of 78.

David was born in Sabinal, Texas, September17, 1940.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacquelyn; son, James (Jim)Laffoon (Helen); daughters, Anne Laffoon (Pete Frost), Brenda Clish (John); grandchildren, Jacob Laffoon, David Laffoon, Brandi Loggins (Jon), Kelsi Morse, and Corey Morse; sister, Bertha Hardin; brother, Larry Laffoon; niece, Phyllis Hardin Bryan; nephew, Mobry Laffoon; and one great nephew. Preceding him in death are his parents, Iford(Bob) and Louise Laffoon; and brother, Richard Laffoon.

David grew up in South Texas and later moved to Morgan City, LA, where he attended high school and played football. His team was honored as state champions in 1957. He moved back to Texas where he graduated from PSJA High School in 1958. He attended Pan American University, Edinburg, Texas.

He had a long career with Shell Western E&P Inc. working in production, drilling offshore and in South and West Texas. In 1990, on the McAllen Ranch in Starr County, he set a world drilling record for the most cumulative footage drilled with a single bit on four wells. He retired as a drilling specialist after 33 years with Shell.

David was a member of The Sons of The Republic of Texas and was a creative artisan, avid hunter, skeet shooter, and gun collector. He was also a great story teller, who loved reminiscing about his life, hunting, and experiences in the oil field. He was a man of faith who loved and prayed for his family. He is now rejoicing with the Lord and loved ones until we meet again.
