Diane Horan Obituary

HORAN
Diane Barbara Horan entered this world on June 21, 1941 in New Bedford, Massachusetts the daughter of Terrance and Barbara Thompson, and departed from it on July 19, 2014 in San Antonio. She was the beloved wife of James Horan and the devoted mother of two daughters, Tracey Elizabeth Horan of Ashburn, Virginia and Tobey Elaine Horan of Denton, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters; Terryann Thompson of Tewksbury, Massachusetts and Deborah Keirstead of Indian Harbor, Florida; numerous relatives including her cousin Arthur Briggs who was particularly close and helpful over the past few years. Diane attended Northeastern University in Boston and worked as a librarian at a physics research library where she met her husband to be, Jim. She loyally followed him to Albuquerque, New Mexico, then returned to Massachusetts while he attended graduate school and made a final move to San Antonio in 1984. Diane and Jim would have celebrated the ups and downs, highs and lows of 49 years of marriage on August 28th of this year. During the past few years, Diane suffered from crippling arthritis, debilitating diabetes and cancer. She met this challenge with dignity, patience and grace. Thanks to the help of her oncologist, Dr. Steven Kolter and his staff, she managed to fight the cancer for three years before the awful disease took her life. She will be terribly missed by her family and close friends. Requiescat in Pace, Diane. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2014, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Dear Horan family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of this amazing lady. As Tobey's college friend, I was so honored that she became my "second mom," sending notes, giving hugs, being such a source of support, especially when I lost my father. I still treasure a cross-stitched picture she made for me. That all of that loving nurturing was matched by a tremendous sense of humor just made her all the more special. While we have memories to treasure, I truly feel confident that heaven just started having more fun! My love and prayers are with all of you.

My precious Diane, I will miss you so much. So brilliant, so funny, so loving and understanding. What will Bill Miller do, now that we don't meet there for our 3 hour visits to catch up on everything under the sun, and nearly getting kicked out with both of our loud laughs! Didn't stop us, did it? You gave me courage and hope when I was down, and I am proud to have had the joy of having you as my best friend. Till we meet again my friend, till we meet again-

Diane - it was wonderful to share a small part of each work day with her in conversation. It's my good fortune to have known Diane and now I hold resplendent memories of her character to last a lifetime.
