Domingo Portillo Obituary
Domingo M. Portillo, beloved husband, father and grandfather was born on April 16, 1916 to Doretea and Petra Portillo. Domingo walked and prayed daily with Christ. On Sunday February 6, 2006 at the age of 89, He walked a longer way than usual and was too tired to return. He continued to walk with Jesus and is now in eternal rest with the Lord. Domingo served proudly in the US Army and was honorably discharged in October 1945, receiving the service medal and 4 Bronze Stars after battles and campaigns in Tunisia, Algeria and French Moracco in 1943, Rome-Arno in 1944 and Naples-Foggia in 1945. He is a life member of VFW Post 9186. After serving his country, Domingo married Emilia Gil on September 14, 1947. Working hard all his life, Domingo made friends with everyone he met and retired from Kiolbassa Provision Company after many years of service. An avid sports fan, Domingo loved boxing and baseball. He followed all S.A. baseball teams at the amateur level and was a frequent fan of fast pitch teams in San Antonio and Austin making many friends along the way. Domingo is preceded in eternal rest by 5 brothers and one sister. Domingo is survived by his wife Emilia having recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. He will be missed by his loving sons Domingo (Linda), Robert (Irene), grandsons Alexander, Domingo, Salvador and grand daughter, Natasha Mendez (Rene) Great grandchildren Justin, Domingo, Natalie, Narisa and Esmi Sonae. Extended family include Linda, John, Sabrina, Jasmine, John Jr. Victoria, Hanah, Trinity, Monica, Skylar, Lena, Adrian, Adrianna and Numerous, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be grandchildren Alexander, Domingo, Salvador, Justin, Domingo Jr. and nephew Alejandro Lozano. Honorary pallbearers, are grand daughter Natasha and niece Ofelia Portillo. The strength and love of our beloved father, grandfather and husband will be remembered forever. We wish to thank Dr. Juan Gonzales and the Staff of Vista Care and Mission Manor for the care given to our father. Visitaion will begin Tuesday at 2:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM at the Delgado Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral procession will depart Wednesday at 9:30 AM for 10:00 AM Mass at St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Jose Burial Park. Delgado Funeral Home.
