Dora Hernandez Obituary

HERNANDEZ
Dora Lee Garza Hernandez was welcomed into heaven on February 27, 2014. She was a cook and baker of great renown, and loved to demonstrate her love for her family and friends with delicious meals and wonderful cakes, cookies, and pies, and at Christmas, the best tamales you've ever tasted. She was an elegant and beautiful woman who had a strong faith in The Lord. Dora was born to Alfredo and Guadalupe Garza on their ranch in Rio Hondo, TX in 1928.She married Modesto Hernandez on September 1, 1946. They were married for 59 years until his death in 2005. They both provided a great example of enduring love through hard times and good times, great work ethics, and love for their family. Dora worked for almost thirty years at the Bexar County Courthouse in the Property Tax Appraisal department. In the last few years of her life, Dora left her beloved Southeast side neighborhood and moved into The Village at Incarnate Word. She was preceded in death by her husband, Modesto,; infant daughter Lillita; daughter Irene O'Hara; her parents; numerous brothers; and her sister Gloria. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ed Hernandez and Cindy Adamson; son Herman Hernandez and former daughter-in-law Trena Clayton; and daughter Cris Pappas. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Caleb Clayton, Camille Hernandez, Christina O'Hara, and Ryan O'Hara, Ph. D. and wife Ashley; three great-grandchildren: Maverick, Scarlet, and Paxton O'Hara; brother Max Garza, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family wishes to thank her caretaker of the past year and a half, Karen Sullivan, for her loving care and attention. Her efforts kept Dora with us much longer, and for that we are grateful.
