E. Basse Obituary

E.A. BASSE III (TRES)
October 22, 1951 - October 21, 2024
E.A. Basse III (Tres), 72, of McQueeney, Texas, passed away after a brief illness on October 21st.
Tres (known to his family as The Chief) was born on October 22, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Texas Military Institute in 1969, Tres went on to study at Arizona State University where he received his BFA in Photography. He had a lifelong enthusiasm for photography and upon graduating from ASU, he went on to do an intensive study of Ansel Adams, further cementing his passion. He then spent a handful of years in Carmel, California where he owned and operated a local small business before returning to his hometown of San Antonio. It was then that he met and married his lifelong love, Penni M. Basse. Together they had two children, many pets, and many laughs. After their children were grown, Tres and Penni settled in McQueeney, Texas.
Tres was a 5th generation Texan and a member of The Sons of the Republic of Texas, a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Exposition, Texas Cavaliers, The Order of The Alamo and San Antonio German Club.
To say Tres was a colorful character is quite the understatement. His daily uniform of Bermuda shorts and a Hawaiian shirt was legendary and spoke volumes about his tongue-in-cheek approach to life. His quick wit and kind heart were magnetic. He fancied himself a magician and was a card-carrying member of Texas Association of Magicians. Tres was an avid reader and great lover of film. He had impeccable taste in movies, but also indulged in a good ol' Hallmark Christmas movie on many occasions. In recent years, he was hard at work creating and maintaining his photography collection website and publishing a five-volume set of photography tomes. Tres was truly larger than life and carried around the biggest heart.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Penni M. Basse; father, Edgar A. Basse, Jr.; mother, Anne Wright Basse; brother, Gordon C. Leland, Jr. He is survived by his son, Christian Mathews Basse and wife, Camilla L. Basse; daughter Caroline Allyson Basse Mowrey and husband Patrick S. Mowrey; grandchildren, C. Sloane Basse; Savannah Lee Mowrey; and longtime faithful sidekick, Hootie.
A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Mission Burial Park South. The Rev. Scott Kitayama, officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers will be J. Bradford Camp Raul A. Cardenas, Clyde C. Crews, Jr., Tom C. Frost III, Barrett H. Harrison, Paul A. Mueller, Douglas C. Pape, Ansen B. Seale, David R. Speer, David J. Straus III, John H. White, Jr., Gilbert G. Wright, IV, John D. Beran, James C. Christensen, William A. Beinhorn, and Richard E. Mellina.
