Edna Sharp Obituary

September 18, 1928 - August 23, 2016
Edna passed away at the age of 87. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, one brother, and several nieces and nephews. She was born in Erick, Oklahoma and the family moved to Devine,Texas when she was 8 years old. Her family operated a small grocery store and Edna attended public school and graduated at the age of 16. She moved to San Antonio and went to work for the telephone company. A few years later she was riding the bus to Houston to see her brother. On that bus, she met a US Airman,Henry Sharp, who was on leave and traveling to see his family in Alabama. Upon their return to San Antonio the two began dating and were married on September 16, 1961. After several years, she decided to become a teacher. The company let her work from 6p.m. - midnight so she could attend college by day. Edna's first years of teaching were in Amarillo where she taught second grade. Upon Henry's retirement from the USAF, they moved to San Antonio and she was hired as a first grade teacher with Northside ISD where she remained for 26 years. When asked why she liked the first grade, her response was that she could see a daily change in each student. Volunteering was very important to her. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. Memorial services will be held Tuesday August 30,2016 @ 10:00 a.m. at Mission Park Funeral Home on 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive
