Edward Chevalier Obituary

CHEVALIER
Edward Robert Chevalier born May 10, 1922, in Lowell, Mass to Edward E. and Yvonne M. Chevalier, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at the age of 92 at the Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville, Texas. He joined the US Navy in 1942 and was attached to the Marine Corps as a corpsman the first year. By the end of WWII he had attained the rank of PHC 2/c (Pharmacist's Mate), now the equivalent of Chief. While he was stationed at Balboa Naval Hospital he married Navy nurse Ens. Druecillo Mae Fleming of Crystal City, Texas. He left the active duty Navy after WWII, but stayed in the Naval Reserve until 1948 when he joined the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. When the Army and Air Force split Edward chose to go with the Air Force. In the 1950's he was assigned to a USAF medical unit doing aerospace research at Randolph AFB in Texas. In 1959 he was transferred to the Balcones Research Center in Austin, Texas where he trained the monkeys that were sent into space during the early days of space travel. In 1963 he went to Lackland AFB as a Master Sergeant where he designed and operated the lab for the first electron microscope in Texas. He retired from the USAF in 1967 having had served in the US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Army and the US Air Force for over 25 years. He continued working in the field of epidemiology with the electron microscope at Lackland AFB as a member of the Civil Service. During the 1980's, after retirement from Civil Service, he was recruited by the University of Texas Marine Sciences Institute in Pt. Aransas where he worked with the electron microscope for several years. Edward was a Master Mason of the Texas Masonic Lodge No. 8 A.F. & A.M., San Antonio, Texas for 60 years. Edward loved fishing, photography, gardening, and woodworking. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather who always put his family first. He was a man who was raised during the Great Depression, knew the value of hard work and if you were in need would give you the shirt off his back and his last dime. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Lowell Chevalier, and his wife of 60 years, Druecillo Mae Chevalier. Edward is survived by his brothers and sisters, Raymond Chevalier, Jerome Chevalier, Louise Morea, and Jeanette Dumont; his son, Edward F. Chevalier and wife, Nina; grandsons Edward J. Chevalier and wife, Adrienne, and Robert G. Chevalier and wife, Jennifer; and five great-grandchildren, Ashton, Sarah, Blake, Allie, and Edward Richard Chevalier.
