Edward Couch Obituary

Rev. Edward (Ed) Couch, OMI, 66, died Monday, March 4, 2002 at Oblate Madonna Residence in San Antonio, TX, where he was residing at the time of his death. Father Ed was born on December 3, 1935 in Abilene, TX to Edward W. Couch, Sr. and Kathryn Agnes Brady who preceded him in death. Father Ed attended grammar schools in Abilene, TX, and St. Anthony's High School Seminary in San Antonio. He began his novitiate in May 1954 in Mission, TX; professed perpetual vows on May 1958 and was ordained a Priest in San Antonio, TX in September, 1961. Father Ed's first assignment was to St. Anthony's where he served as a teacher and school bursar. He served as Director of St. Joseph's Retreat House (presently Oblate Renewal Center), San Antonio, TX and Christian Renewal Center, Dickinson, TX. He served as hospital Chaplain for Brooke Army Medical Center and Methodist Hospital. He served as Provincial Treasurer and various Province committees. His ministries also took him to Del Rio, Eagle Pass, San Juan, Odessa, Brownsville, Port Lavaca, San Benito, Beeville, and Sarita, TX, and Aurora, CO. Father Ed is survived by his brother, Mike and his wife Trinell Couch; nephew, Shannon and wife Kelly Couch; two nieces, Mishelle and husband Leland Godbee, and Cheryl and husband Mark Menditto; numerous family members including Tina and James Edward Garcia and many friends from the various ministry sites where he faithfully served. Rosary Vigil will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2002, 7:00 P.M., Immaculate Conception Chapel, Oblate School of Theology, 285 Oblate Drive, San Antonio, TX. Mass of Resurrection Wednesday, March 6, 2002, 10:00 A.M., Immaculate Conception Chapel, Oblate School of Theology. Interment will follow in Oblate Cemetery. Arrangements by The Angelus Funeral Home.
