Edward Zawora Obituary

LTC (retired Army), Edward A. Zawora, age 101, passed away on Jan 8. 2023. He was born Oct 12, 1921, in East Chicago, Indiana to Polish immigrant parents. His heroic service during WWII and The Korean War earned him a Congressional Record. He loved family, his Catholic faith, milkshakes, hard work, his Polish heritage, America, and helping others. His drive for success started as a young boy selling newspapers in East Chicago. He won a contest and was awarded a ticket to the Indy 500 car race. With no transportation, he jumped freight trains to and from the race all alone. He was the epitome of what a faith-led, selfless, patriotic, and generous person could be. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Carolyn Zawora, parents, four brothers and a sister. Edward is survived by his children, Kasha Squires (Richard), Edward A. Zawora, Jr. (Patsy) and David Zawora (Patty), eight grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
