Elena Ramirez Obituary

Elena Lilia Ramirez (née Haynes), born August 18, 1913 in Laredo, TX was called home to the Lord on the morning of April 21, 2008 following a long illness. She was 94 years old. Elena was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Juan Ramirez, and her daughters Margaret Miller (husband Robert also deceased) and Arabella Chapin. She is survived by her children Juan Ramirez Jr. (wife Yolanda), Alberto Ramirez, Clara Truesdale (husband Peter), Lillian Wendtland (husband Steven), and Leonard Ramirez along with 14 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren, a lasting legacy indeed. Raised in Laredo, TX, Elena moved to and settled in San Antonio shortly after she wed. She loved to travel and made frequent trips to such far-flung places as Spain, Russia, Korea, Turkey, and Egypt but was often heard saying how proud she was to be a Texan. There were few things she enjoyed more than an interesting conversation with a good friend. Generous to a fault and with a tender heart for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be sorely missed. Visitation will be Thursday, April 24th at Treviño Funeral Home on 226 Cupples Road from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a rosary immediately following at 7:00 P.M. A funeral procession will commence Friday, April 25 at 7:30 A.M. from the funeral home to St. Paul's Catholic Church on 350 Sutton Drive where the funeral mass will be conducted at 9:00 A.M. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II at 746 Castroville Road. Elena requested that in lieu of flowers, mourners please make a donation in her name to their favorite charity.
