Elssy Acosta Obituary

ACOSTA
Elssy Ester Acosta
Elssy Ester Acosta, 49, born
November 30th 1960, in Medellin Colombia, was called home on Saturday, June 19th, 2010. Elssy led an extraordinary life. At only five years of age, Elssy was enrolled in the school of arts where she found her greatest interest in piano. She received her degree at the School of Fine Arts in Music and worked at a Montessori school as a music teacher. She moved to the United States in 1981 and settled in San Antonio where she has lived since 1983. Elssy continued to teach piano and opened her own studio. She met her husband Ron in 1997 and they married nine months later. Elssy was instrumental in helping Ron grow Las Palapas from 4 to 11 locations. In 1999, Ron and Elssy established the Jireh Foundation which was started from a scripture her mother gave her and Ron during their courtship, "Pure and true religion is to help orphans and widows in their time of need." Since its inception, the Jireh Foundation has financially assisted orphans and widows in San Antonio, and other US cities, as well as in Mexico, Central and South America. This was a natural fit for Elssy who loved people and loved serving others more than anything else. Even during her 3-year battle with cancer, Elssy self-lessly focused on others looking to help in whatever way she could. Elssy's strength came from her family and from her relationship with the Lord, "Jehovah, is the fortress of my life." Elssy is survived by her husband Ron, her Mother Maria Lucy Londono, Father, Guillermo Londono, her two sisters, Ruth Madrid and Lucy Beshears; children, Aaron Acosta, Matthew Acosta, Joshua Acosta, Ashlynn Acosta; grandchildren, Jeremy and Zachary; nephews, Mauricio, Sammy, Pablo and niece Natalia. A service celebrating Elssy's life will be held Wednesday, June 23rd from 6 pm to 9 pm at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North 3401 Cherry Ridge Street, 78230, 210.349.1414. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 24th at 10:30, at Cornerstone Church Main Sanctuary, 18755 Stone Oak Parkway, San Antonio, Texas. Interment to follow in Mission Burial Park North. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Jireh Foundation, 12042 Blanco Road #112, SA 78216. You may sign the online guestbook at www.missionparks.com, under the obituary section.

We are deeply saddened to have lost Elssy. Her beauty was as evident on the inside as it was on the outside. She was considerate and charming by nature, and uplifting to those around her during her struggle. Elssy's faith sustained her as did the love of her family and friends.

Mr. Acosta and Family,
I only met you and your wife through your self-less service and devotion with our organization. I had the privilege and honor of a private conversation with Elssy at one of our board meetings to which I will always remember. Elssy's sweet, compassionate and kind spirit will live on forever.

To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, He will give eternal life. Romans 2:7

My soul finds rest in God alone: my salvation comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

Dear Ron and family,
Our hearts are deeply saddened and broken to lose one from "this side" who gives so much of the pure love of Jesus. It won't be long til we all get back together again in the presence of our Beloved, Jesus. You and Elssy are wonderful wonderful people, and Jesus broke the mold when he made her---there is no one else like her. We love you. Warren & Julie Cook

Mr. Acosta and family, it is with great saddness to learn of Elssy's passing. She was an amazing piano teacher to my son. I will always remember how kind and proud she was of my son Nathaniel Ramirez. She kept in touch with him through middle and high school and recently sent a gift for his college graduation. I am soooo proud to say that she was a part of our lives. Amor Y Paz, Raquel Padilla-Ramriez and Nathaniel Ramirez
