Ern Mooney Obituary
December 2, 1978 - June 24, 2024
Ern "Trey" Cunningham Mooney III was peacefully called Home in his sleep on Monday, June 24, 2024 following a valiant battle with Leukemia. He was 45 years old.
Trey was born December 2, 1978. He grew up in New Braunfels, Texas and attended Canyon High School, graduating in 1997. He was very active in several sports and the Future Farmers of America. Trey earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a high schooler. He went on to obtain a business degree at Texas A&M University in 2001. Trey was very proud to be an Aggie and to support his alma mater. He eventually entered the insurance field and found great success as he rose through the management ranks.
Trey was an avid sports fan; football, baseball and golf were his favorites. He was especially passionate about Texas A&M football and the Chicago Cubs. He discovered the Cubs at 7 years old in New Braunfels, TX watching satellite TV channel WGN based in Chicago. His faithfulness to the Cubbies never waivered.
On October 19th, 2013 Trey married the love of his life, Shauna Pinkerman. Together, they were blessed with two beautiful sons, Trevor (8) and Connor (5). Above all, Trey was a devoted family man; he was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and son-in law.
He is also survived by his parents Ern Jr. and Elizabeth Mooney, younger brother Sean, sister-in-law Jennifer, and nieces, Evelyn and Vivian, and an extended loving family of in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition, Trey is survived by loyal friends that he considered family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, at 5pm at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels with the praying of the Holy Rosary to follow at 6pm. The funeral Mass will be Wednesday, July 3, at 10am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels. There will be a burial mass at St. Aloysius Church in Westhoff, TX at 1pm on Sunday, July 7. Trey will be laid to rest immediately following Mass at the Westhoff Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Halo House Foundation at halohousefoundation.org and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org.

Your beautiful boy - I am so sorry! It’s hard to believe he was a grownup and had a son about the same age as when I last saw his cute little face in your backyard pool.
We go back such a long way yet the deep affection is still there.
