Deacon Freddy Jesus Alfredo Mireles, 71, of Bulverde, Texas/San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 18, 2021 after a courageous battle with COVID-19, surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 6 to 8 PM, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Honey Creek Church in Spring Branch, Texas, with committal in St. Joseph Cemetery immediately following.
Deacon Freddy was born on October 12, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas to Jesus and Carmen Mireles. Deacon Freddy is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Vietnam War, he graduated from UTSA with a degree in History. He worked for 18 years at Shell Oil as a Senior Instrument Technician and spent 23 years at the Edwards Aquifer as a Field Inspector. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus, an active member of the Optimist Club, and served in several parish and community ministries, heavily focused in the Hispanic and Latino community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Joaquin Mireles. Deacon Freddy is survived and dearly missed by his wife and soulmate for over 42 years, Janie Mireles; his daughter, Monica (David) Rangel; his son, Alexandro (Sara) Mireles; his daughter, Raquel (Josh) Muñiz; and his grandchildren, Enrique, Isabel, Emma and Ezra.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards their extended family, friends and church community.
Instead of floral remembrances, the family suggests that donations can be made to St. Joseph's Honey Creek Church to honor Deacon Freddy's memory.
