Genevieve Urrutia Obituary
Genevieve (Genny) Brennan Urrutia entered into eternal rest on February 14, 2004 in San Antonio, TX. She was born March 12, 1918 in Yonkers, NY to the late Ellen (Moore) and George P. Brennan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, COL Henry W. Urrutia, USA, Retired. She leaves to remember her with love her two sons and their wives, Henry (Rick) and Barbara W. Urrutia and COL, USA, Retired Michael B. and Lynn R. Urrutia; grandchildren, Brian P. Urrutia, David D. Urrutia, Jennie U. Fisher, Elizabeth (Tootie) B. Urrutia; sister, Mary Campbell; two nieces, cousins and a host of dear friends. Upon graduation from high school, Genny attended Cocharan School of Nursing in Yonkers, NY. After graduating in 1941, she was commissioned into the United States Army Nursing Corps, and began her Army training at Fort Benning, GA. With the onset of World War II, Genny was transferred to Makin Island in the South Pacific, supporting Soldiers, Airmen, and Naval personnel. Genny was one of the first 12 U.S. nurses to serve in the South Pacific Theater. Following World War II, Genny was transferred to Trieste, Italy, where she was promoted to Captain. Genny met Hank Urrutia in Trieste, where the couple were married in 1948. Genny was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed her final years among her good friends at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, TX. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Sunset Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 9:45 A.M. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will also be held Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel at The Army Residence Community, 7400 Crestway Rd., San Antonio, TX 78239. All her friends are warmly invited to meet family and share memories at a 'Celebration of Genny's Life' reception at 5:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 18, 2004, in the Army Residence Community Sky Lounge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Army Residence Community Gift Fund to continue their exemplary care of their residents, as they have so lovingly cared for our Genny, or to the charity of your choice.
