George Case Obituary

Surrounded by his family, George Case peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on September 8, 2022, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

George was born on May 14, 1943, and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. George was a graduate of Alamo Heights High School, Southern Methodist University and Northwestern University School of Medicine.

He completed his residency in Urology at Duke University where the esteemed chief Dr. James Glenn described him as the best technical surgeon he had ever trained. Following his father's lead, he moved to San Antonio to practice urology for the next 40 years. His care was distinguished not only by the highest quality of medical judgement but even more so by kindness and empathy. The Case Urology legacy continues on with his son John who had the pleasure of practicing medicine alongside his father until George's retirement in 2014.

Like his father, George also met the love of his life Kay on a blind date while attending medical school in Chicago. They immediately fell in love, married, and cherished one another's company for the next 55 years. His devotion to Kay was an example that he passed on to his two sons.

Throughout his life George sought sanctuary in the outdoors. He will be remembered as one of the finest golfers in the San Antonio area. At age 18, he won the Club Championship at the San Antonio Country Club where he was later inducted into the Golf Hall of Fame. He was the youngest Champion, and that distinction still stands today, 60 years later. George also loved a great bird hunt and became a fly-fishing purist even on the days when that was not the most productive way to catch fish. Weekends at the lake were therapy for him and he relished a peaceful sunset cocktail cruise. He enjoyed traveling especially with his wife Kay, his golfing buddies including his son Chad, and he cherished the annual summer trips to Colorado and Florida with his family, especially his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Papa".

Since 1986, George has been a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was a regular fixture at Louis Zbinden's weekly bible studies. He loved serving the youth of our community, volunteering as a reading buddy. He also participated in multiple mission trips, treating patients in Kenya, Haiti and Mexico.

George was a gentleman, thoughtful, dignified, exceptionally loyal and a humble servant. His Faith guided him in all aspects of his life. He was beloved by all who knew him likely because of his subtle sense of humor and his gentle kindness. He treated everyone with dignity and respect. He was deservedly considered a "best friend" to so many, and his gentle spirit will live on in those who had the fortune to know him.

George was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jane Case.

He is survived by his wife Kay; his sons John (Katie) and Chad (Amy); his five grandchildren Mary, Andrew, Luke, George and Jake; and his sister Carol Bentley (Ken) and their children.
The family thanks Dr. Sudha Seshadri, Dr. Neela Patel, Elisha Medina, FNP, Debbie Broussard, Diamond Miller, Joe Barrans, and Lance Ward for their loving care.

A memorial service will be held on September 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo Street, San Antonio TX 78205.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases.
