Gerald Walter Obituary

Gerald Kenneth Walter passed away on Saturday, July 23th, 2022.

Gerald was born in San Antonio, Texas to Helen and Lonnie Walter.

He had one brother Louis, two sisters Frankie and Elaine, and two half-brothers David and Lonnie.

In 1959 he enlisted in the Navy where he was promoted to the rank of E-5 and served as a Fire Control Technician. After the Navy, he continued his life of service by joining the San Antonio Fire Department where he graduated as part of the first class of EMS and went on to rise to the rank of Lieutenant.

Gerald was also a professional locksmith and owned and operated Las Palmas Key Shop, a staple of the westside, since 1964. Through the key shop he exemplified his belief in being fair to people, doing the right thing, and helping others. He was also an accomplished billards player, winning numerous championships at the local, state, and national level.

He was truly a lifelong student of the game which he loved so much. Gerald was easy going, quick witted, and always joking around. He loved magic and card tricks and was always looking for ways to surprise and delight others.

He will be remembered as a generous and loving husband, father, friend, and a good man by those that knew him. He had three sons, Gary, Gregory, and Jeffrey.

He is survived by his wife June, his two sons Gary and Jeffrey, and his stepson John Drew Hager.

A military funeral will be held at Fort Sam Houston on Friday, September 16th, 2022 at 11am for all those that would like to attend. To leave personal condolences for the family, please visit www.olingermortuaryservice.com.

Would very much like to get in touch with Gary. I was Diana's classmate and longtime friend. Last saw Gary at Diana's and then son's funerals. Hope he made it to Hawaii. Haven't forgotten you, Gary.
