Glenn Murray Obituary

Glenn Guilford Murray was born on November 10, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas.

He was a graduate of MacArthur High School in San Antonio, TX and Southwest Texas State College (now Texas State University) in San Marcos, TX.

Glenn was an officer in the U.S. Army. Following his Army service, Glenn worked for Kroger in the Dallas, TX office. In 1969, he began his 34-year career with HEB Grocery Co. corporate headquarters, then located in Corpus Christi, TX. While living there, Glenn renewed his love of running and fishing.

In 1985, HEB Grocery Co. headquarters moved to San Antonio, where Glenn was the corporate controller. He also helped to develop and lead the hurricane/emergency preparations team. Glenn later helped develop and lead the supplier diversity team.

Following his retirement in 2003, Glenn and his wife, Judy, traveled much of the United States, especially to the far Northeast Coast of Maine and the beautiful coastal area of Mendocino, CA.

Glenn continued his love of running and added long-distance cycling to his weekly workouts. He also joined his close friends climbing mountains in New Mexico and Colorado. Glenn enjoyed morning runs with his "Mac Pac" friends and the weekly coffee group.

Spending time with family, especially his granddaughter, became a cherished time for him.

A descendant of Texas pioneering families, Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin & Nora Murray.

Glenn is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Judy; daughter, Lisa Murray-Verschoor, and her husband, Jeff Verschoor; son, Michael Murray, and his wife, Liz Platé Murray; and beloved granddaughter, Meghan Murray.

The Murray family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at both Shavano Park Senior Living Memory Care Unit and Heart to Heart Hospice. Private services will be held at a future date.

Glenn impacted our lives. He was confident and proud of his family. He always was ready to take on the next challenge, whether it was running the Boston marathon or solving an inventory issue within HEB. Condolences to his family.

I was fortunate to work for Glenn for many years. When deer season would come around each year, he would talk about the good times he had hunting with his mom. He also spoke lovingly about Judy and his kids.
Glenn will be remembered for his work ethics and his laughter. Condolences to Judy and his family. May he forever rest in peace.

Glenn will be remembered with great fondness and lots of crazy grins. He was one of the good ones! Judy, watch for the ‘signs’. I share the pain of your grief.

We enjoyed our neighborhood conversations with Glenn when he would be out walking and passed our house on the way to the mail box.......it was so nice to share meaningful conversations with him and his wife, Judy. He will be missed .
