I am honored to have known Helen not only because of what she accomplished in her life but because she helped a lot of people, especially the Hispanic community.

I am happy to have met her because also I met her wonderful parents and her sister Rosemarie. It was during the time that I was trying to get an Aerospace Engineering degree from Texas A&M University that I briefly met Helen. It was a very trying time for me then, but with God’s help I made it. I still look back and remember often because there are also some very happy and wonderful times back then that will always be a part of me.

I remember like it was yesterday, the house on San Horacio, I can see Helen as she flashes me her big smile as she says Hi and Bye.

Hector and Rick, I was saddened by the news of your mother's passing. I've known your family for years and is was always a nice surprise to run into her from time to time. The memory of your mom as a church leader at St. John Berchmans, later with C.O.P.S. and then City Council made an impact on the city of San Antonio and on the State of Texas. She was a hard worker which led her to be an awesome role model for all of us, especially for our young Hispanic women. Helen, pray for us here who remain and we will pray for your voyage to Heaven. May your sweet soul rest in peace. Until we meet again, Adios.

My deepest sympathy goes out to her family. May God provide them with comfort and cradle them during their time of need. To Hector and Richard, your mom was a wonderful woman and always worked hard to address the issues in our neighborhood; I know you are most proud of her. I first met your mother my freshman (and Rick's) in high school at Kennedy. I was in awe of all she had accomplished and how wonderful her son's were. I know she served as a great role model to all people, especially woman in our neighborhood.

May God provide you with a loving embrace in your time of missing Helen. She helped us make family violence an issue to be addressed while on Council. This was not a popular issue to take on, yet she did. Her leadership and service to our community does not go without notice. Patricia S.Castillo, The P.E.A.C.E. Initiative, San Anto,TX.

A true leader in our communities, at a time when leadership was in short supply, Helen Ayala took on this important role. As a Leader in the C.O.P.S. organization, Mrs. Ayala stepped up to the plate and took on the adverse task at hand. We the community thank you for your efforts, for we know that without you and other leaders like you, we might still find ourselves in the neglected communities we were used to living in. Helen, because of you and other leaders, we stand proud in our neighborhoods, saying, this is our neighborhood and we will fight to the end to keep it our neighborhood.
Viva C.O.P.S., Viva Helen Ayala.

Heln was a wonderful woman and a great role model and mentor to so many women in our community. I will eternally be indebted to her for the opportunties that she afforded me. I still recall the American Red Heart/Red Dress Breakfast where she was asked to speak regarding her stroke. I picked her up and asked if she had her speech ready. She indicated that she did. During breakfast, before she spoke, I asked if I could see her speech. I opened her book and it was blank. She just smiled. She spoke, received a standing ovation, and returned to her seat. She looked at us and said, "I had a stroke; it didn't make me stupid all of a sudden!" That was "classic Helen!" May she rest in peace.
