Howard Smith Obituary
July 27, 1947 - June 27, 2025
In the morning on June 27, 2025, Howard Pierce Smith passed peacefully from this world into Heaven at the age of 77. Howard was born July 27,1947 in San Antonio, Texas to Howard P. Harwood Sr. and Letha Haynie.
Howard graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965 and Rice University in 1969, attending on a football scholarship. Howard married his wife Michelle in 1985 at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church.
He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandaddy, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Howard is survived by his wife, Michelle Smith, his daughters Leslie Wood Shankle (Joe Shankle) and Jolynn Wyborny Ledgerwood (David Ledgerwood), his brother Mike Smith (Michele Smith), and grandchildren Emma Wood and fiance Luke Owen, Alex Wood, MacKenna Wyborny, Meredith Wood, Malynn Wyborny, Will Ledgerwood, Meghan Wyborny, and Carter Ledgerwood. He is preceded in death by his father Howard Harwood Sr., mother Letha Haynie, and son-in-law Jeff Wood.
His family wishes to send their heartfelt gratitude for the amazing care he received from the physicians and nursing staff at St. Luke's Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 10th from 5:00-7:30 pm at the Lake Breeze Ski Lodge in McQueeney, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Scholarship Program.
