I am so sorry for your loss Angela. What a beautiful smile he has. You were probably the apple of his eye. Having recently lost my dear old dad, believe me when I tell you it takes 3 years to bounce back. Call me if you wish to talk (718) 268-2914 and look for signs from him. They are all around if you request them out loud. Love, Sallie

I am so sorry for anything that makes my favorite family sad, but if wasn't for Italo and Italo's influence my favorite family wouldn't exist. Thank God for Italo and his wonderful family. God bless you all. I love you all.

Dear Covo family:
I am sorry we met under such stressful circumstances and I hope that we gave Italo some quality of life in his last few months. I am sorry that we could not do more to fight this terrible disease. My hopes and prayers always with you all

Enjuga tu llanto y no llores si me amas...... Fuerza !! tienes una hermosa hija y nietos para seguir adelante y el, descansa en Paz... los quiero mucho , un beso

Dear Juanita, Angela, Fred, Sophie, Chris and “Little Delia”:

As the heart tries to make sense of the passing of Italo, my mind goes back many years and many miles. It was Buenos Aires in the early fifties when the three of us met, Italo’s late teen years. I still see both of you radiant and happy as you have been in your lives together. The dapper and worldly Italo left an impression in that moment that stayed with me and will never be erased, an impression of respect and admiration.

He always managed to be a king among kings and peasant among peasants, a man’s man always. His great virtues were again displayed in my favor many years ahead when we resumed our friendship, you in New York and me in California. As he was dropping me off at the airport one evening, we had a long chat; as I kind of succumbed to the “what could have been”, apologizing to him for an unexpected tear clouding my eyes, Italo gave me the most noble of embraces and said “No te preocupes, los machos tambien lloran” (don’t worry, men also cry).

He gave me again the best he always had for everyone, his friendly love, his understanding, his hand for you to overcome your pain. I thought you should know, as I remain thankful forever.
As I said Good Bye, walking towards the gates, Italo turned to me and assured me “Arivederci, si vediamo subito”. Yes, we saw each other many more times in NY and in San Antonio, not enough, I am sure, but we kept in touch. Today I need to tell you, thank you good friend, “hermano” (brother) as we called each other. The “Aleman” (German) will not forget you as nobody whom you have touched can ever dismiss the moment they met you. Your wife, your daughter and her husband and your grandchildren, will carry on your smile and push for excellence that you instilled in all of them. Your multi-talented grand kids are already carving a path in life which is the pride of family and friends. Travel easy, hermano, may you be blessed by the eternal suns shining in your face and may your ship be always gently pushed forward by that ethereal breeze in your stern. Old mariner, “Arivederci, si vediamo subito”.

Tu hermano, Juan S. Sprindys. Newport Beach, California

I always loved your dad because he loved you (Angela) so much. You were the apple of his eye and I can't think of a father who was more proud of his girl than Italo DiFulvio. Love from the green mountains to you all. xxx Lauren-Glenn

What can we say- Italo, one of the most generous people we have met and a true friend. With a warm smile and a cup of coffee, it was always OK - and much like we feel, almost "preferred" - to just stop by for a visit - "anytime" -and enjoy an hour or more discussing the nuances, absurdities and humor (always humor)in life. When our home was destroyed by fire, we will never forget the kindness of the entire Covo family - and the $100 bill Italo pressed into Mike's hands as he gave him a hug! (We needed that cash to buy underwear - and somehow he knew :) And even then, we laughed!

We love the Covo's - always will - and Grandpa, Dad, Italo, is forever, a part of our spirit.

I first met Mr. DiFulvio when I was thirteen years old - a time when the exigencies of adolescent development require that we spurn adult authority and reject parental figures. It was then that Mr. DiFulvio strode past those "Keep Out!" signs and right into my heart. Mr. DiFulvio managed in his inimitable way to embrace me and all of Angela's friends, as a part of his heart. You felt completely accepted by him. Immediately included. You became a part of his family. And, knowing his fierce love of family, this was a precious gift indeed. Mr. DiFulvio was a father to us all in a way. When we were in trouble and alone, afraid to call our own fathers, we knew Angela's "Daddy" would be there - without judgment or criticism about how we could be so misguided, even when we were. He would somehow know a mechanic who could help with the dented ar. He would offer up a plate of ravioli when you walked into his house hungry and tired. Most of all, you always knew you could go home again. And, even if it was not your home, it sure felt that way.

Italo DiFulvio will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all who knew him. My love and deepest condolences to those who knew him best and loved him most: Mrs. DiFulvio, Angela, Freddie, Sophie, Chris, and Delia.

Dear Angela and Mrs. DiFulvio,
Italo di Fulvio will remain in the hearts and minds of so many, as he touched so very many lives with his warm, friendly persona. I will always remember your Dad, Angela, who welcomed me like family, as did your beautiful Mom. Oh, and the homemade Italian food you father prepared, miniature pizza with fresh vegetable toppings and other delicacies I could not pronounce that he created were divine! What a wonderful host to my parents and brothers your father was, Angela, when we first arrived in NYC with no friends. Your family invited my family over and gave us a welcome party unlike any I had ever been to before with laughter, music, homemade food... You were my first best friend in New York, Angela, and your entire family welcomed my entire family with open arms. I will always be grateful to you, your Mom and especially your Dad for that. You and your mother will remain in my thoughts and prayers, as will your father. And please always know he loves his family and is watching over you all now from a place now where he can do so even better than he was able to when he was here on earth.
Much love,
Meg

We are all diminished when the world says so long to one that is remembered for his giving smile and good nature. It is over thirty years since I last had the pleasure of seeing your dad, but what stays with me was his gregarious laugh along with a radiance for life. The phrase "Good Soul" is what comes to my mind. I have one memory that really stands out as I think back on days gone long ago- it was at Angela's 15th birthday at El Gaucho down in the Village- what I remember is your dad's pride in his daughter along with such warmth for all that came to celebrate. It was his zest and passion combined with an open heart that I shall remember when thoughts go your way as you deal with such a tremendous loss. We are all in his debt for being the man he was. His gifts I am sure are being reaped each day by those closest to him. Once again, my sincerest condolences go to all that were closest to him especially his two girls. My prayers and thoughts go with you this day. We should all have an Italo in our lives, we were so lucky to have known him.

My Dearest Angela and Mrs. DiFulvio,

My fondest memories of Mr. DiFulvio go back to my early childhood - to the birthday parties in your apartment. Your dad was always smiling and happy. He did his best to make me feel special and welcome in your home. Everytime I saw him he was smiling. One of the warmest and nicest persons I had the honor to know. He was very special and very proud of his daughter.

This must be a very difficult time for you - so many memories that bring a mixture of grief and joy, so many persons to whom you share information and consolation, so many moments of quiet to find your own peace and strength. It is not easy and my heart goes out to you and your family.

You are still very much in my prayers.

Rafael

It is unfortunate that as the years pass we all tend to miss the opportunities to visit as we should. It may have been years since I've seen you all but there is and will always be a special place in my heart for Italo...
(um Mr.Difulvio) He was a tough costumer but I knew he cared about me way back at 11 years old in his charismatic way.. Certain people make an imprint on your life and he did that for me. My thoughts, prayers and happy moments are with you all.
All my love

Italo di Fulvio was a man who loved. He loved life. He loved people. He was probably the most passionate man we ever knew. When he committed to something, he threw himself into it. If he liked you, he loved you. When you were invited to his home, you were treated like family. And, for Italo, family is what his entire life revolved around. Because, most of all, he loved Delia and Angela and Freddie and Sophie and Christopher and “baby” Delia. Everything he did was for them.

We can’t be here with you today, but we understand that everyone here knows that Italo was an amazingly special man, a man who loved to share his love of life. He always saw the silver lining, even in the darkest cloud. And we know that Delia, Angela, Freddie, Sophie, Chistopher and Delia are incredibly fortunate to have had him in their lives – as were we. While all the joy he brought to those of us who loved him is heavy with grief today, we know that, as time passes, we will always smile when we remember Italo and be filled with the warmth that emanated from him. So, please, spend some time today to tell stories about Italo and remember that while he wants you to miss him, he also wants all of us to enjoy life as much as he did.
