Jacobo "Jake" Hernandez Martinez, 91, of Helotes, Texas, passed away November 11, 2023.
Jacobo was born May 10, 1932 in San Antonio to Guadalupe Zimmerlie Hernandez and Aniseto Martinez. He graduated Northside High School in 1952 and married Margarita "Margie" Obregon September 12, 1959 in San Antonio. He was a 26-year Civil Service Mechanical Engineer at Kelly Air Force Base and served as an Army National Guard Reservist 1950-1959. Jacobo was an ardent builder, hunter, mechanic, and grill master.
Jacobo was preceded in death by parents, and sister, Francisca.
Jacobo is survived by his wife of 64 years; 2 sons and spouses – Jesse and Carol Thompson Martinez of Helotes, Alfred Martinez and James Prothro of Dallas; sister Petra Reyes and niece Mary Elizabeth Reyes of San Antonio; 3 grandchildren and spouses and 6 great- grandchildren – Cheryl Lee and Jack Quipp of Helotes, Jack Quentin Quipp Jr., Joseph Quentin Quipp; Sharon Renee and Abraham Joshua "A.J." Fribourg of Helotes, Harly Renee Fribourg; James David Thompson and Tiffany Swiatek of Moyoock, North Carolina, Nikolas Elijah Thompson, Ava Rose Thompson, Calice Brielle Thompson. Additional family - Julie Sekula Martinez Andrews and Carl Gass; Tina and Jose Obregon.
A visitation for Jacobo will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A rosary will occur Monday, November 20, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. A committal service will occur Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian, 11624 Culebra Rd, San Antonio, TX 78253.
