James Browning
October 18, 1932 - July 22, 2025
Col. James D. Browning, D.M.D. of Boerne, Texas, perpetual student, dentist, educator, and avid golfer, passed away at his home in Menger Springs Retirement Community in Boerne on July 22, 2025. He was born in Logan, WV on October 18, 1932, the son of Huley A. Browning and Julia S. Browning. He is survived by Libby, his wife of 72 years, and their sons Timothy (Louise Ciallella) of Madison, Wisconsin, and Jeffrey (Nancy) of Boerne.

Jim attended Marshall College before entering dental school at the University of Louisville on an Air Force scholarship. In his subsequent Air Force career he directed USAF area dental labs in several states and in Okinawa. He later taught at ORU and the University of Mississippi.

In 2013 he and Libby, his wife of 72 years, returned to San Antonio where he taught in the Department of Prosthodontics at UT School of Dentistry before finally retiring for good in 1997.

Services will be held at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Septermber 10.
