HATCHETT
James Ray Hatchett went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2012, at the age of 90. Jim was born on December 17, 1921, to Essie Forrest Hatchett and Pat Hatchett in Holland, Texas. His legacy will be one of generosity and helping others. His life was always active and productive to the fullest. Jim dearly loved his family and friends and was a captivating conversationalist. Jim will always be admired and loved for his kindness, strength, and devotion to God, Country, and family. He graduated from Academy High School in Holland then worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the U. S. Navy. He served during WWII in the Pacific from 1942-1946 as Chief Yomen aboard ships USS Ancontius and USS Missouri. Jim graduated from Southwest Texas University in 1950 and established the Ag Department at South Side High School. Jim Hatchett was respected by all the kids in the Oak Hills neighborhood. He was firm but kind, honest and forthright, and a great husband, father and neighbor. He never got mad at me for my shenanigans including tearing down the basketball goal on his house along with the roof trim while dunking a basket. I offered to fix it and he just smiled and said, "No Randy, I think you've done enough for one day". He will be missed very much by his family and many friends.

Jim Hatchett was my next door neighbor for many years. He was a model neighbor, always considerate and friendly. The best kind of neighbor you could hope for. We traded a few sea stories over the years and will be greatly missed. My heartfelt sympathy to his caring family.
