Raised in Tulsa, he attended Irving Grade, Roosevelt Jr. High and Daniel Webster High School. His fondest memories of those Tulsa years are, his classmates and the student body of Daniel Webster High School, who did him the honor of electing him 1949 Senior Class President. In January 1946, at the age of 15, Jimmy enlisted in the USMC, from which he was honorable discharged six months later. In June 1949, Jimmy joined the USAF, serving 1950-1952 in Korea. Assigned to Eglin AFB, he met and married Josephine M. Lukawitz in November 1952. He served in the USAF until he retired in January of 1969, after having been stationed in Japan, Iceland and Germany. In Bremerhaven, GE, Jim coached the High School Baseball Team and Inter Services Little League Baseball. After returning to the United States and his final duty station at Brooks AFB, Jim coached the CYO Baseball and Pop Warner Football teams of Holy Name Catholic Church. Upon his retirement at Brooks AFB, TX he began his second career as an Educator/Coach in the San Antonio School District at Rogers Middle School, Highlands High School and retired in 1995 at Brackenridge High School.
