James Richards Obituary

James T. Richards, Col. U.S.A. Retired, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2003. Colonel Richards was born July 8, 1915 in Burleson County, TX. He attended the University of Texas where he majored in pharmacy, graduating in 1936. In 1939, he was commissioned into the Regular Army, Pharmacy Corps. During World War II, he served in both North Africa and Europe. Following the War, he attended Northwestern University and received a Master's degree in Hospital Administration. While subsequently serving in the Army Medical Service School at Fort Sam Houston, he was instrumental in establishing the program in Hospital Administration affiliated with Baylor University. Colonel Richards served in Korea, attended the Army War College and served as Executive Officer of Brooke Army Hospital for several years prior to his retirement in 1958. During his Army years, he had three different tours of duty at Fort Sam Houston and always considered San Antonio as home. Among Colonel Richards' decorations were the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Korean Order of Ulchi. He is survived by his wife, Annabel; son, James T. Jr. of Burnet, TX, and two grandchildren. American Mortuary.
