James Stoneham Obituary
James Walter Stoneham, 84, died December 5, 2016, in San Antonio, Texas. Born April 6, 1932 in Dallas to William Walter and Iva Stoneham; he earned a B.A. Degree at North Texas State and a M.A at SMU. Walter gained notoriety for his Research & Planning Council studies exposing residential property tax inequities. These studies assisted in Texas property tax reform. His career ended as Chief Appraiser at Bexar Appraisal District. Walter received TAAD's Earl Luna award in 1995. There is a TAAO scholarship in his name. Walter's completed 33 marathons and 1 triathlon. Active in San Antonio Roadrunners, he attended monthly breakfasts with members even after a spinal injury in his final years. Walter is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his children and their spouses, Liz & Douglas Keitz, Walter Jr., Daniel, and Carolyn & Archer Lawrence and 5 grandchildren. See more at missionparks.com. Visitation held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North Tuesday, December 13th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass, Wednesday, December 14th 10am at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Burial at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery.

My condolences to the family. I had the honor to work with Mr. Stoneham at Bexar Appraisal District. He was a true leader and gave me great advice. I also took a class that he taught through San Antonio College. He also gathered a few district employees back in the day to join him for a jog after work. Rest in peace Mr. Stoneham.

My deepest condolences to the family. Mr. Stoneham was a great mentor to me I worked for him at the Bexar Appraisal District and he believed in me from the day he met me. I have fond memories of him and pray that your memories of him will help during this difficult time. RIP Mr. Stoneham.
