Jerry "Dean" Miller, Retired Colonel, U.S.A.F, age 79, passed away on July 26, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on October 28, 1934 in Durant, Oklahoma to Steve and Juanita Miller. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan of 59 years; son, Steve and wife, Patty of Richardson, Texas, son, Jeff and wife, Estela of San Antonio, Texas; daughter, Tracy Atkinson and husband, Wayne of Spring Branch, Texas and grandchildren, Brooks, Travis, Taylor Leigh, Natalie, Erika and Matthew. He is also survived by his brother, Frank Miller of La Habra, California. Dean graduated from University of Arizona in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration where he was noted Who's Who of American Universities and Colleges. He was commissioned in May 1956 through the Reserve Officers Training Corps at the University of Arizona, entered active duty in the Air Force in December 1956 and received his wings in December 1957. He was a command pilot with over 4,700 hours flying C-130's and C-9A's. Dean received many awards and decorations for his dedicated service including the Distinguished Flying Cross, The Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster. Dean was a die-hard baseball fan following his beloved Los Angeles Dodgers. His other pastimes were playing golf, gambling and coaching his boys youth baseball teams.
