Jessica Castillo Obituary

On September 10, 2022, at 8:30pm, on her 47th birthday Jess was surrounded by her loved ones as we prepared to sing her the mañanitas.

She opened her eyes and God called her home to return with him. Jessica was a giving daughter, a sharing sister, a loving aunt, and loyal friend.

On September 5th Jess decided to go home via hospice for her transition. We reached out to her friends to report that Jess was nearing the end of her eighteen (18) month fight with cancer. Each of them texted back the same thing, her family was most important and first for her.

Born and raised in San Antonio by her parents she was never lonely being the fifth child out of seven. She was a determined spunky child. She attended Loma Park Elementary, Truman Middle School and graduated from Memorial High School. She attempted the start of her college career at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa but the pull in her heart led her straight back home even before classes began in the fall.

Jess worked for Costco Wholesale for nineteen (19) years as a cake decorator. You could find her decorating in the early morning before the store opened, especially on Fridays when her beloved "booty bounce" played in the background. Even when out on leave she would often check in on her coworkers and remind them that the product they put on the floor was a representation of what she had taught them. Even during her illness, she did not give any excuses on quality work. She was proud to be a Costco employee and even as her illness progressed, she did not want to retire. She held on to the hope that she would one day return to work.
In our lifetime we may never get to tell others what they mean to us or how they impacted our lives. Jessica was unique in this sense. She did not wait until she was gone. She opened her home to multiple family members when needed. She did not have any unfinished business. You knew where you stood with Jess. You knew how much she loved you while she was here. She never married and she bore no children, but she dedicated many years to help raise her nieces and nephews and even more to take care of her parents. She is survived by her parents Francisco and Paula Castillo, siblings Julian Castillo (Rachel Castillo), Christine Castillo-Hernandez, Patricia Castillo, Elvia Pace (Marvin Pace), Raquel Castillo and Maria Garibay, her chosen son Vincent Amery Garibay, nine (9) nephews, three (3) nieces, and five (5) great nephews.
