Jimmie Steves Obituary

JIMMIE DICK STEVES
November 9, 1951 - February 13, 2025
Jimmie Dick Steves, a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away at home on February 13, 2025, at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with Corticobasal Degeneration. Throughout his journey, he displayed an unwavering spirit, never losing his sense of humor or his desire to stay connected with his loved ones. His strength and resilience in the face of adversity were an inspiration to all who knew him.

Born on November 9, 1951 in San Antonio, TX to Edward (Ado) and Virginia (Gee Gee) Steves, Jimmie embraced life with a boundless energy and a commitment to excellence in everything he did. From an early age, he displayed a natural talent for sports, excelling in all of them, with a particular passion for baseball. As a youth, he was an all-star catcher, admired by both teammates and opponents for his exceptional skills behind the plate.

Beyond his love of sports, Jimmie had a deep connection to the outdoors, with a special passion for deep sea fishing. He spent countless hours on the water, pursuing the thrill of the catch and the camaraderie of fellow anglers. He was also an avid collector of saltwater tackle, coolers and Texas Cavalier memorabilia.

Jimmie's talents extended beyond the athletic field and the open sea. He was a gifted woodworker, transforming raw materials into breathtaking works of art. Specializing in high-end architectural millwork, his skill and attention to detail were evident in every piece he created. His exceptional work was even featured in Architectural Digest, a testament to his dedication and artistry. He took great pride in his projects, contributing to the lasting beauty of homes and buildings.

An active member of The Texas Cavaliers, The Order of the Alamo, The German Club, and The San Antonio Country Club, Jimmie leaves behind a legacy filled with laughter, epic stories, and unforgettable moments. He lived life to the fullest, loved deeply, and laughed loudly. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward (Ado) Steves and Virginia (Gee Gee) Steves; his brother, Edward (Eddie) Steves; and his brother-in-law, Mart Jung. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Steves; his sister, Connie Jung; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Holy Rosary will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 6:00 p.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest, San Antonio, Texas 78209. The Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, also at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Jimmie Dick was my best friend in grade school. We waited every day for the school bus to Mount Sacred Heart together with Eddie. I remember nights spent outside in our sleeping bags, days running around the neighborhood (hoping our escapades wouldn´t get us in trouble), racing our slot cars, and building our own slot car track, an early example of his woodworking talent. Our homemade go-carts turned into race cars, sources of excitement and fun, precious adventures. Our adventures shaped our friendship and the essence of our lives.

I only knew Jimmie for a short time. What I learned in that short period is he was a great craftsman. I´ve seen some of his work at the La Fonda Restaurant the large round top doors on the party room. He will be missed by many .
