My grandma Jo, lovingly called Joma by her grandchildren, passed peacefully on March 19, 2022, at the age of 89.
She was a sincere woman in a class of her own who left an immeasurable mark on the hearts of those who knew her. She filled our childhoods with joy and memories, from after-school playdates climbing the windmill at her house to summers in the mountains of New Mexico at our beloved cabin, and all the special days in between. Joma got me my first library card, taught me to ride a bike without training wheels, and showed me the importance of exploring and appreciating nature; exceptional adventures with her grandchildren were her specialty.
She gave to each of us exactly what we needed at every step of our lives. We have been immensely blessed to have been loved by her for so many years. And we thank each of you reading this for loving her as we have. -- Sarah Jo Wagner
Jo Ellen H. McIver was born August 3, 1932, in Brenham, Texas, and graduated from Navasota High School.
She married Robert Gene McIver in 1953 and is survived by their children Kiel, Louisa, John, and Shannon (Wagner), five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Jo and Gene planted their roots in San Antonio, TX where she was an active, long-term member of Madison Square Presbyterian Church. Jo was a lady in the truest sense of the word. She always arrived with a calm demeanor, kind words, and a warm, welcoming smile. She was known for being an avid reader, artist, seamstress, quilter, gardener, short-story writer, birdwatcher, amateur historian, always-practicing Spanish speaker, and superfan of grandchild-sporting events.
A Celebration of Life will be held May 22, 2022 at 1pm at Madison Square Presbyterian Church in San Antonio.
We welcome family and friends of Jo to join us.
