Rev. John A. Balleza, COSJ
July 14, 1953 - March 31, 2024
The Reverend John Anthony Balleza, COSJ, passed peacefully into the Kingdom of Heaven on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of 70 in South San Francisco, CA. He was born to Jesse C. Balleza and Regina Ibarra Balleza. Fr. John was born and raised in San Antonio and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School.

Fr. John was ordained to the priesthood on November 16, 1985. He retired from his priestly vocation in 2022 and joined the Contemplatives of St. Joseph Monastery at Mater Dolorosa, a monastic order in South San Francisco. He was a dedicated Catholic priest for almost 39 years and guided thousands of souls through his work as pastor of several parishes in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Fr. John is survived by his five siblings, Bill (Missy), Evelyn Roel (Eddie), Irene Gallagher (Peter), Jesse Jr. (Geri) and Walter (Maureen) as well as his beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his extended Balleza and Ibarra family and many close friends. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 8, celebrated by his good friend, Fr. Jimmy Drennan at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. 610 Oblate Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78216. A Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m., immediately followed by mass at 10:30 a.m. Both will be held at Blessed Sacrament.

A reception will immediately follow in the Parsh Hall. All are welcome.

I´m fortunate to have known Father John as a friend and brother. Will miss our discussions. Favorite memory is skiing at Heavenly Valley with him, Jack and Eli!
