Rev. John Hubert Collet, OMI, born in Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba, Canada on February 2, 1939, died in San Antonio, Texas on April 27, 2022 at the age of 83 years.
Fr. Collet professed vows as a member of the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate on August 15, 1961 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 17, 1967 at Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba, Canada.
Fr. Collet spent many years as a Spiritual Director and Associate Retreat House Director. He served at Holy Trinity Seminary at Irving, Texas, St. Mary's Seminary in Houston, Texas, and Assumption Seminary in San Antonio, Texas.
He also ministered at Ave Maria Retreat House, Marrero, Louisiana; Casa Cristo Rey Retreat Center in San Angelo, Texas; and Christian Holiday House, Dickenson, Texas; as well as Shalom Center, Houston, Texas.
He likewise spent five years on the Formation Team at the Oblate Novitiate in Godfrey, Illinois.
In 2013, he moved to Oblate Madonna Residence in San Antonio where he continued in reduced active ministry as Spiritual Director at Oblate Renewal Center until full retirement.
Fr. Collet was preceded in death by his parents Clement and Antoinette (Chappellaz) Collet, and a brother, Marcel Collet.
He is survived by brothers André; Gilles; Roger; Lucien; and Normand Collet all from Canada.
Fr. Collet will be remembered with respect and esteem by his Oblate brothers and all the people who were recipients of his pastoral care.
FUNERAL SERVICES
Vigil Service and rosary will be held in San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, May 3 2022, at 7:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Memorial Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 10:00 AM in the same chapel followed by interment at Oblate Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
