I was sad to learn of John's passing. He was my company XO during my rook year at Norwich and, while always doing his duty in that position regarding my NU orientation, never failed to treat me and my contemporaries with kindness and respect at all times. He was truly a mensch. May he rest in peace.

I was saddened to see that John has passed. He was a good man and a good friend to me while he was at Fitzsimons.

Olivia, I remember meeting you once while John was at Fitz. I just remember him telling me over and over again that you were coming and that he wanted me to meet you.

My condolences to you and Your family.

John was a classmate in flight school. He was one of my two team mates on the escape and evasion course and we certainly had some stories to tell after that night in the Alabama woods. John was one of the good guys. Always had a smile on his face and was one of the most admired men in our class. The world lost a good one.

Olivia and family,
Having known John from our Norwich days and a periodic crossing of paths in our Army days..... Vietnam, Leavenworth and stateside phone calls between Ft Rucker and Ft Hood, I truly say he was a professional, a warrior and a gentleman in traditional Norwich fashion. He will be remembered for his heroic times in Vietnam. My deepest condolences to you and your family during this time.

Dear Mrs. Colvin and family,

John was one of my favorite patients in the dental office. We shared a love for dentistry (his two years of dental school education provided for good humor as he could accurately and sometimes semi-accurately describe his dental problems) and a love for mission work (him Haiti, me Honduras). There was just a connection between him and I and I will miss our conversations in the office.
I always love to read a patient's obituary because it provides another layer of depth and humanity to the side of a patient that I have gotten to know in my office. John was quite an accomplished man and served God, his country and his family. I am happy for the time that I knew him and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Olivia, John, David and Matt,
I read Johns incredible obituary and know that you all are so proud of the man you called husband and father, and will grieve this huge loss for a long time. He was a larger than life presence, and an inspiration to so very many. What an amazing example to his sons of leadership, service and valor! I know you will all miss him dearly. I see Kevin and Jennifer Hays frequently, and we reminisce about the two military dads who kept us all in check (or did their very best to;) My son in law is a lieutenant in the USMC stationed in Honolulu. I have such a greater appreciation now for all those who have the discipline and courage to stand and serve/defend our beautiful country. I know that Johns legacy will live on through his sons, and grandchildren, and that his many military and civic accomplishments have blessed hundreds. Thinking of all of you during this hard time and wishing Covid werent standing in the way of celebrating his life with all who knew and loved him.
All my best to all of you!
