John Rohe Obituary

June 13, 2018
Bro. John Rohe died on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. He was 87 years of age with 68 years of Marianist life. Bro. While a professor at Chaminade University in Honolulu, he volunteered to do adult education with service personnel in Hawaii. He came to San Antonio in 1986 to be part of the formation team. He served as a pastoral associate at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Helotes until he retired to the Marianist Residence in 2007. He is survived by his brother, Joseph Rohe, cousins: Patricia Maes, Michael Hagan, Fran Hagan, Tim Hagan; niece, Julie Shine; other nieces and nephews. Viewing will be at 6:00pm on Sunday, June 17, at the Marianist Residence Chapel, rosary recited at 7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, June 18, at 4:00pm in the Marianist Residence Chapel. Interment in the Marianist Cemetery. Bro. John was an exceptional person! We knew him when he was pastoral assistant at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Helotes. He moderated a couples group to which we belonged, with love and laughter and joy. He drove to Louisiana with two other parishioners to help us celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary (that was 25 years ago!). Those of us who were surrounded by Marianists, from young adulthood to becoming grandparents, grew in understanding of our church and our world.

Much Love, Bro. John! So many memories...

Bro. John was one of my favorite teachers at Nolan back in the 70s. He was the first teacher to help me to realize that I had an aptitude for science. What a positive impact on so many people. May he Rest In Peace.

Bro. Rohe, you inspired and changed lives. May you Rest In Peace knowing that your job here was well done.

Bro. Rohe was the best teacher I had while at Nolan. He was very patient with my immaturity. Rest in peace and I will always keep you in my prayers.

Brother John was one of the most intelligent and witty men I know. I could sit with him and listen and talk and laugh and pray and always come away with a new perspective on life. His ability to engage and discuss life with all persons of every age was a true gift from God. The world is definitely a better place because of the life God gave him on this earth. While we are very sad at his passing, we are over-joyed at his finally being with our Lord and Savior. May God bring him into His loving hands and may he rest in peace.
