Joseph Kotara Obituary

Joseph Anthony Kotara, age 13, of Karnes City, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2002. He was born on April 5, 1988 in Karnes County, TX to Sam Jr. and Susie Grothues Kotara. Joseph was an 8th grade student at Karnes City Junior High School. He was an Altar Server at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Panna Maria, TX; achieved Boy Scouts Order of Arrow, 4-H Swine, Food and Nutrition, and Woodcraft, Hermann Sons Camp All Star Camper, for four out of five years, Hermann Sons tumbling, cross country runner, UIL impromptu speaking, dictionary, and listening, and former Karnes City Fire Department Mascot. He is survived by parents, Sam Jr. and Susie Kotara of Karnes City, TX; brother, Alex S. Kotara of College Station, TX; sisters, Jessica Anne McDaniel and her husband John of Kerrville, TX and Amy Kotara of Karnes City, TX; grandmother, Joan N. Grothues; aunts, Mary Ann Kotara McDonald, Cathie Clark and husband John, Patti Menn and husband Randy, all of San Antonio, TX and Ginger Gober and husband Alan of Austin, TX; uncles, Anthony John Grothues, Jr. and wife Nancy Brann of Helotes, TX and Robert Louis Grothues and wife Frances of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Sam Sr. and Tina Kotara, and Anthony John Grothues, Sr. Rosary will be recited 7:00 P.M., Friday, January 25, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Panna Maria, TX. Mass will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 26, 2002 at the church. Burial will follow in the Panna Maria Cemetery. Fr. Frank Kurzaj will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joseph A. Kotara Scholarship Fund or the Karnes City Ecumenical Youth Ministries Fund in care of Karnes County National Bank, P.O. Box 98, Karnes City, TX 78118. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff in the Pediatrics ICU unit at Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio, TX.
