Judith Ann Grojean
October 30, 1941 - November 8, 2025
Judith, known as Judy, was born Chicago, IL, to Herman Edward Brier and Dorothy Lee (Hightower) Brier. She was the middle of three children with an older brother Ed (deceased) and younger brother Bill. She spent most of her early life in Liberal, KS, where she graduated high school.
It was in Liberal that Judy met her future husband at a motel (parking lot) when the Navy's Blue Angels passed through town for an air show. Her friend went to meet one of the Blue Angels and Judy tagged along and was introduced to Ken who served as crew chief. Her children have had lots of laughs over the years telling people she met their dad in a motel. We are setting the record straight, that they stayed in the parking lot.
Judy traded her job at the Ma Bell switchboard for the life of a military spouse raising a family on the move. Mike was born in Macon, Georgia, and Michele in Tokyo, Japan. After Ken's final military transfer to San Antonio, Judy began her own successful career in the civil service, where she advanced to GS-11 before retiring. She served both the Army and Air Force, and was proudest of her many years at the 90th US Army Reserve Command (ARCOM), where she was privileged to lead the 90th ARCOM's visit to Normandy to commemorate the 50th anniversary of D-Day.
Judy's husband of 48 years, Kenneth Charles Grojean, preceded her in death in 2009. She is survived by her brother Bill Brier of Wichita, KS; her son Michael Grojean and daughter Michele Blaker; their spouses Yvonne Grojean and David Ashley Blaker; her grandchildren, Sasha and Austin Grojean, Ruth and Barrett Blaker and his wife Abbie; and extended family members.
As no one ever left her home without food in their hands (or a few dollars in their pocket), the family requests that anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory consider the San Antonio Food Bank, an organization that embodies her lifelong commitment of giving to others. In honor of her wishes, there will be no services.
May her memory continue to inspire love, generosity, and community in us all.
