Julian Homer Craven Jr.

Julian Homer Craven, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 31, 2011, at the age of 86, after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma on February 22, 1924, to Julian & Daisy Craven, and grew up in Watonga, Oklahoma. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Eleanor; children Georgianna and Eric Henderson, Carol Sue & Randy Merkin, Gloria Craven, and Julian Craven, III; grandchildren Kristin Henderson, Steve & Bethanie Hansen, and Stephen, Susanna, Kathleen, Michael, and Abigail Henderson; Heather & Jason Pence, Mindy & Todd Warner, Tim & Stacy Merkin, and Seth Merkin; Jeffrey and Amy Chang; and Juan David Craven; great-grandchildren Annabelle, Kelsi, Ellie, Halie, Liberty, and Cecily; brother Dean Craven, sister Maurine Biggs, and many nieces & nephews. Julian graduated from Oklahoma A & M University after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Branch Manager for Business Men's Assurance Co., a Certified Life Underwriter, and was a life-time member of the Million Dollar Round Table. In addition, he was a deacon at Trinity Baptist Church for many years, and was active in Alamo Kiwanis Club, the Masonic Lodge, and other community service organizations. Affectionately known as DanDan by his family, Julian loved spending time with his grandchildren and his miniature daschund, Lady. He was also an avid hunter, and enjoyed being in the out-of-doors with his friends. Julian will be remembered by those who knew him as an extremely generous man with a compassionate heart. There will be a memorial service in celebration of his life at Trinity Baptist Thrift Chapel on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at 3:00 pm, followed by a reception on site. A private burial service will take place in Wimberley, Texas, at a later date.
