Lawrence M. Hamilton: January 6, 1932 – January 23, 2024
Lawrence "Larry" Hamilton, embarked on a heavenly adventure January 23, 2024, after a sudden decline in his health. His story began on January 6, 1932, in Lake City, IA, when this beloved man entered the world. He grew up in Iowa, graduated high school, then joined the USAF where he proudly served before being honorably discharged. Subsequently, Larry attended North Texas State College in Denton, TX where he earned his undergraduate degree and then completed his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX. Larry then began his esteemed career as an attorney in the Alamo city where he was loved and respected by his colleagues and by those he served.
"The happiest life ends before death". Larry had a happy life. He embodied the best of qualities: An unconditional love and unending generosity for his family and friends, as well as an unquenchable thirst for knowledge as evidenced by the vast library of books and teaching courses he amassed over the years. His keen intellect and inquisitive nature led all pursuits, such as his love for aviation and subsequent attainment of his pilot license. Larry had a zest for life and loved to travel with his miniature sidekick for 47 years, his spouse, Tillie. The two practically shared a liver, where you saw one, you saw the other. Larry found joy and humor in any place and in every circumstance; his optimism lifted the spirits of those graced by his presence. If you needed a friend with a kind face to just sit and listen, Larry was your guy.
Larry is survived by his spouse, Tillie Hamilton, his son, Robert "Gus" Hamilton, daughter-in law, Ann Hamilton, his stepdaughter, Lisa Abbott, son-in law, Mark Abbott, sister, Mary Kay Montgomery, brother-in-law, Moe Gilkison and a myriad of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, close friends and his true love --- all people.
There will be a private Mass dedicated to Larry's memory as well as a private ceremony to scatter his ashes at Stinson Municipal Airport where he will take his final flight.
