Leonard Adelman Obituary
Leonard S. Adelman passed away February 14, 2003 at the age of 85 years in San Antonio, Texas. He was born September 8, 1917 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Morris Adelman and Florence Sable. Leonard graduated from Saint Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. With no hesitation, he began his lifelong career in the family business in the heart of downtown San Antonio. He worked alongside his father and his brothers at Morris Adelman Men's Store-once the oldest Men's Store (established in 1901) in San Antonio. He was a complex man with many passions including sailing, race cars and of course, traveling. As one of the founding members of the Woodlawn Sailing Club and the Lake Canyon Yacht Club, he had the opportunity to pass on his love of sailing to many kids and adults alike. As an avid world traveler, Leonard visited China, Europe, Israel, Africa and Australia to name a few and usually did so with one of his brothers or sisters in tow. His beloved brothers, Philip Adelman and Jerome Adelman, and his beloved sisters, Idella Fox and Beatrice Davis, preceded him in death. He was the last of his generation and the family patriarch. He is survived by his nephews, Philip Fox and his wife Carol of Houston, Texas; Herbert Davis and his wife Nancy of Tyler, Texas; Frank Adelman; Samuel Adelman and his wife Carol; Robert Adelman and his wife Diana; and his nieces, Mae Davidson and her husband Ralph of Houston, Texas: Helen Meyer and her husband Harold of Meridian, Mississippi; Barbara Barban and her husband Arnold of Blanco, Texas; Carol Polunsky and her husband Sylvan of San Angelo, Texas; Joanie Lipstate and her husband Jene of Lafayette, Louisiana; Marilyn Jankower and her husband Mervine of Lafayette, Louisiana; and Cathy Adelman. Numerous great-nephews and great-nieces and many, many dear friends including his best friend, Frank Riesenecker and his wife Betty, also survive him. GRAVESIDE MONDAY 11:00 A.M.
