“To Sir With Love”

Mr. Leonard H. Heath was my teacher/advisor at Sidney Lanier High School (Class of '71). I would like to thank you for sharing your husband/father with us, the students at Lanier. I am sure he could easily have taught at a school closer to home. Instead he chose to trek his way to our inner city school where he was much needed, appreciated and made a difference in many students' lives. I recall him dearly, as a gentle soul. Back then, you could often find my silly best friends and I, gleefully singing from the bottom of our hearts “To Sir With Love” in honor of him. I will treasure those memories always.

My sincere condolences to the entire Heath family. I was fortunate to be in Mr. Heath's homeroom from the 7th grade (Lanier Jr. High) through the 12th grade (Lanier High). I knew him as a caring, respectful and gentle man that wanted to make a difference in the lives of students in the Lanier community. His leadership, guidance, direction and inspiration taught me that I could be anything I wanted in life. This, along with my mother's advice, helped me to achieve my goal. Mr. Heath always stressed the need to work diligently for what we all wanted; as it was attainable. The impact Mr. Heath had on this 7th grader was unbelievable & God-sent! There was a song back then called, "To Sir With Love". It was about a very, very special teacher that influenced the lives of many students. It starts: "How do you thank someone who has taken you from crayons to perfume?" This song reminded all of my classmates of Mr. Heath. Now forty years after I graduated from Lanier, Mr. Heath continues to be a tremendous influence to me and many other Lanier graduates. He will live forever in our hearts. His enormous job on this earth is completed and he now enters eternal life. May he rest in peace........."To Sir With Love"...........Class of 1971.

Len was blessed to have a wonderful family and you all were blessed to have a wonderful quiet husband, father and grandfather.
